A surprising hit at Love Dove Studio Gallery has been the delight people have expressed at my travel journals. I have learnt that journaling is 'a thing' now. I was merely sketching when on holiday with the thought of working up one or two images into larger works. That hasn't often happened, but I have kept my sketchbooks going for more than 30 years now. The style varies within the various books, and the writing - which initially was of the "we did this, then we did that" school - has developed into a more discursive and pensive reflection of the experience; often nothing at all to do with the scene or view portrayed.
This is a new page on the website, to give the impression that I have been busier than I felt at the time. Over the next few weeks I shall try to find the time to put a few journal pages up for consideration. It has been suggested by a few that I publish these journals. I cannot say that I am convinced as yet, certainly not about putting out my (at the time) infant writing skills to public scrutiny. A few of the drawings appeared on cards during our time at The Oystercatcher Gallery in Campbeltown and I may reproduce some of the more recent drawings in this fashion before long.
Let me know what you think, using the Contact Form at the foot of this page.
